This article describes research about a study on undergraduate students who have experiences traumatic events and post-traumatic psychological effects after those said events; a portion of these events were sexual assault related incidents - some which were too traumatic to openly discuss. This study is tailored to college students and includes not just traumatic events of a sexual assault, but also of a possible combat or the sudden death of a loved one. These traumas were compared and executed different results - one of the results being that sexual assault caused for a high portion of depression, anxiety, and PTSD.

(5) Key terms. Define at least two key terms or key concepts used in the piece.

Trauma symptomatology - t
he set of symptoms characteristic of a medical condition or exhibited by a patient in regards to a traumatic event

General psychopathology - the origin of mental disorders, how they develop, and the symptoms they might produce in a person

(6) Quotes. Give three quotations pertaining to your topic, with page reference.

"Females were more likely than males to have been raped or to have been in an abusive relationship as an adult" (293)

"The 69 subjects who reported no traumatic event were compared to those who reported at least one traumatic event...the traumatized group did report greater symptoms of current psychological distress. These two groups were compared on levels of depression, anxiety, alcohol use, and general PTSD symptomatology." (294)

"The total number of traumatic events experienced accounted for small (1-15%), but significant proportions of variance in subjects' symptoms of PTSD, depression, and anxiety. More import, however, is that certain events have a much greater psychological impact than others.
the experiences of rape or of an even too traumatic to discuss by themselves accounted for 8% of the variance in Mississippi scores, 7% of the variance in depression, and nearly 4% of the variance in trait anxiety." (299)

(7) Value. Explicitly explain how this material helps you to explore your research question.

This material helps me explore my research question because it compares other traumas that college students may possibly deal with. It doesn't downplay the effects of other traumas besides PTSD, but it does highlight the fact that sexual assault has significant effects among the other traumas. This study is tailored to undergraduates going through other traumas, so the significant effects they deal with post a sexual assault trauma does the severity of the incident itself.
