Research Blog #9 - Argument and Counter-Argument
The effects of sexual assault on a student are more critical when in a college setting in regards to their mental, emotional, physical, and social health and academic standing, and the role the university plays in consequences is critical in adding onto these effects or lessening them. My research question is: What are the dire effects of sexual assault on a student in a college setting in regards to their mental, emotional, physical, and social health and academic standing, and what is the role of the university in adding onto to these effects or lessening them, in regards to their responsibility? I intend to answer this question by exploring the variety of effects that victims face after a sexual assault incident. I will explore these effects by researching court cases and personal testimonies, as well as researching statistics.
Of all the sources I've come across, there has not been an opposing stance on sexual assault effects. All researchers have claimed that the effects of sexual assault are severe and lead to unfortunate things for the victim. Sexual assault is a serious epidemic and no sources have downplayed the effects that victims feel, rather they support them. There is no direct counter argument to sexual assault effects; mental conditions and disorders developed after are very real, as are the long term and short term effects. Every victim is affected differently, thus every response and reaction is different.
